I just watched this Nightline segment (embedded below) that discusses whether talent is born or can be developed. That's the topic of a new book, The Talent Code, by Daniel Coyle. The key ingredients to developing talent in any field are the right kind of practice, great coaching and concentration/intense focus. Another important point is to focus on making small improvements, which add up over time. A lot of traders try to tackle a host of issues within a single day/week. This goes along with what Dr.Brett writes in his books -- set specific process goals for each day/week. I've made some progress over the last year, but a lot of my screen time and trading has been filled with distractions since I'm at work. Once I jump full-time into trading, my focus and concentration will be 100% on trading and further progress should be at a much quicker pace.
Picked up the Talent Code a couple of days ago after reading chapter 1, which is available from the web site. Very easy to read and useful concepts.
